It is December

"It is December"
It is December 20, 1977. I am in a hospital labor room anxiously awaiting the birth of our third child. I look around and see three generations that would be a part of our child's life.
It is December 20, 2018. I am in a hospital surgical waiting room anxiously awaiting for the outcome of our granddaughter's surgery. I look around and see three generations that are part of her life.
It is December 21, 2018. I am in a hospital room relieved to hear the words that they got all the cancer. I look around and see three generations that have been up all night and anxiously awaiting the words from the doctor, "You can go home now."
It is December 21, 2017. I am in a room that is filled with family, friends and hospice. I look around and see three generations that have been awake for several days, anxiously awaiting the "birth" of our matriarch. She is our mother. She is our grandmother. She is our great grandmother. She takes her last breath as she hears the words, "You can go home now."
Family is the connection to life, a tie to the past, and the road to the future.
