You’ve clicked on this site to find the purpose of the Church. That is an excellent search; for when you find the purpose for the church you find your purpose as well! The answer is given wonderfully from Jesus for the church and us: “Hear, O Israel! The Lord our God is one Lord; and you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength. The second is this, You shall love your neighbors as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these.” We are to love God and others. The purpose of the church is to love God; to worship and serve Him. God has also designed the church to love and serve others. Without the church you can do neither as God has planned. Here are some more scriptures that give more detail to God’s purpose for the church: Matthew 16:18 , for our protection. The church is designed to withstand even the gates of Hades. Colossians 1:18, the church is the body of Christ on earth. Hebrews 10:23-25, to encourage one another. Acts 4:32-35, to meet the needs of one another. 1 Timothy 3:15, to be the household, the family of God. Finally, the purpose of God for the church is its salvation. This is what is recorded in Ephesians 5:25, “Husbands love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it.” Jesus loves the church, has died for it and will save it. Phillip Yancey in his book asks “Church, Why Bother?”, God in His book has an overwhelming answer.
