The Central church of Christ began meeting in October, 1971 in the Women's Club Building in Covington, Georgia. Uel Hester Jr. was the first evangelist working with the congregation and he conducted the radio program "Five Minutes with the Gospel" over radio station WGFS. In 1974, Ed Allard Jr. began working as the minister of the congregation and he offered free Bible correspondence courses and filmstrips covering the Bible and church history. The ministry was furthered when Claude Hames accepted the position following Mr. Allard's retirement. Claude served the congregation until 2001 when Brian Jenkins became the minister. The current minister of the Central church of Christ is Jim Gentry. He and his wife Tina came to work with the congregation in January of 2006. Jim has worked extremely hard for the community and congregation, reaching out to the young people especially, to teach them the Word of God. |
