Hey Sabrina, how's little sister doing? You made some good points, so let's explore God's Word to see if we can get an answer.
You stated that " you did'nt think that the Apostles had a home congregation " well that's correct, but why? Let's consider 2 scriptures, 1st Matthew 28:19 " Go ye therefore, and teach all nations...." the statement all nations mean that they could not stay planted in one specific congregation, their mission was clear, that they had to spread the gospel literally around the world. In Acts 6:1-4 the Grecians were against the Hebrews," because their widows were neglected in the daily ministration.
Check what the Apostles said in verse 2 "....It is not reason that we should leave the word of God, and serve tables." Verse 4 " But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word."
Just from these two scrpitures it is apparent that the Apostles had a different ministry than we do.
Since we are in Acts let's go to Chap. 2 on the Day of Pentecost when Peter preached that 1st Gospel Sermon those Jews were instructed to become Saved, here is the point, once they became a Christian they automatically became a member of the Church of Christ. Question: Can a person become a Christian without becoming a member of the Church of Christ?
I think this next point is powerful & clear
Eph. 4:4 " One Body " Chap. 1:22,23 "...to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body.." Chap. 5:23 "...Christ is the head of church: and he is the saviour of the body"
According to these few scriptures, a person has to be saved, once they are saved they are added to the 1 Church which is the Body.
Question: If he is the Saviour of the Body, can one be saved outside of the Body? If the answer is"No" then one MUST be a member of a congregation.
I know what you meant, meaning a congregation of the Church of Christ, I just wanted to make sure that everyone that reads this understand that WE mean the Church of Christ and not just the Church of your choice!!!!
But I do believe that one has to place membership at a Church, just based on how the Church is established. Elders and Deacons have the responsibilty to tend to the members growth, protection, service etc....if no one places membeship at a congregation then the service of Elders and Deacns would be mute, because there would be no one to tend to.
Ok I have said enough, what say you?
