A Question to Life's Travelers: Whose GPS Are You
A Question to Life's Travelers: Whose GPS are You Following?
Proverbs 3:1-6
?xml:namespace> At one time if a person wanted directions to get to an unfamiliar place, they would use a map. As things progressed electronically, people would use sites like MapQuest or google map. Today we have progressed to the point where we use various navigation tools either on our smartphone or a GPS (Global Positioning System). This space based satellite navigation system provides location and time information, regardless of weather conditions.
GPS' are manufactured by various companies. The main ones we hear about is the Tom Tom or the Magellan models. Sometime, these GPS', as advanced as they have become, still gets us off course, or misdirects us. What I'm going to attempt to persuade you to buy into using is a GPS manufactured by someone, if followed, you will never be lost. This GPS is known as "GOD's Pathway to Salvation.'
Let me give you an overview of how this GPS works as compared to the others I mentioned. Most GPS today talk to you, as well as provide a visual roadmap to direct you to selected destination. Some even give you a choice of voices to hear your directions in. On the GPS I'm promoting, you don't have that choice. You must listen to the one voice, that of the person who developed this GPS. As a matter of fact, if you read God's word, we find written (Matt. 17:5), 'Hear ye Him.' We don't need to program any other voices into this GPS! I recall Paul saying at one time: "(Gal. 1:8-9). The only voice we need to listen to is that of our God/Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Several GPS' give landmarks and street names as part of its directions. (Give an example here) The GPS I'm trying to persuade you into using does the same thing. "At Temptation Corner turn right." Turn right to God's words that says ('1 Cor. 10:13).n or you may hear 'Turn right just before the "Payback store", onto Avenue GWTCI (God will take care of it) at the 'Goodwill Store.' That reminds me of what we read in Rom. 12:19.
We may be driving along life's pathway and the GPS leads you to a fork in the road. God's GPS tells you to go right at the fork towards 'Forgiveness Hwy.' We tend to take the fork to the left at 'Memory Lane, towards Grudge Ridge.' But If we follow the directions when the GPS 'recalculates the route,' it'll take you pass 18:22 Matthews Place and 6:37 Luke Ave.
GPS' have the capacity to take you on alternate routes to avoid traffic jams. Sometimes, as we travel life's pathway to salvation, we run into traffic jams initiated by Satan. Our travel is delayed by carnal lust/desires such as covetousness, backstabbing, lustful desires, envy, gossiping, and the like. All these are an abomination to God (1 Cor. 6:9-10).
In closing, the normal GPS, if you make a wrong turn, you may hear "recalculating' or it automatically redirects you back to the correct route. So does the GPS I'm trying to encourage you to follow. The Holy Spirit speaks to you through God's word to pierce your heart with a feeling of guilt and hopefully penitence. The problem some people have is they still feel their way is best, and continues along the wrong path. The writer of Proverb stated "It's not within man to direct his path" (Jer. 10:23). Going back to a verse partially cited earlier; let's look at the entire verse in 1 Cor. 10:13 (read). We all need and should follow the God/Christ designed GPS to reach our final destination, which is HEAVEN. As a matter of fact, it's the only GPS that will get you to heaven. Any other GPS will just lead you down the wrong path.
I close with my original question: Whose GPS are You Following?
