Is The Bible Inspired by God?
by Ruben D. Williams
This is one of the most vital questions that can be asked by anyone, whether it is an Atheist or a Theist. The subject of Inspiration deserves serious consideration because of the fact that there are other books that claim to be inspired by God. For instance the Qu’ran and the Book of Mormon, also the Catholic Church says that the Apocrypha books are inspired by God. Though these books claim inspiration there are many inconsistencies within them; and they contradict plain Bible teaching. The Bible is one book that contains sixty-six smaller books within it. It was written within a time frame of sixteen-hundred years by over forty different authors and in over sixteen geographical locations, and yet it is perfectly joined together and contains no errors or contradictions. When we consider the proof of the Bible being inspired, internal evidence must be considered. The Bible has the right to testify of itself. In our society today, even a criminal has the right to testify on his own behalf. The Bible also has the right to testify on its own behalf concerning the matter of inspiration. II Timothy 3:16 “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.” Every book, every verse, and every word in the Bible has been inspired by God. The word inspired means “God breathed.” Just as our breath comes from our body the word of God came from Him. The Bible is a book that comes form Him. It is not from man’s interpretation II Peter 1:20-21 “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” When men were moved by the Holy Ghost it meant that they were guided or directed by the Spirit. Furthermore the Bible is not from man’s understanding or thoughts. I Cor 2:13 “Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.” Paul stated that the things he wrote were not form man but by revelation Gal 1:11-12 “But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.” We communicate with each other though the medium of words and God has done the same when it comes to communicating with man. 1Co 2:11-12 “For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of
