He Leads Me Beside Quiet Waters
6/9/2018

"He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters" (Psalms 23:2)

Do you feel like you have too much to do and there's not enough time? Are you tired of your mundane life? Do you suffer from insomnia? Are you frustrated with your relationships? Are you worried about your finances? Have the goals you've set gone astray?  God promises us peace. "Now may the Lord of peace Himself continually grant you peace in every circumstance" (2 Thessalonians 3:16).

Stress can affect our, nervous system, musculoskeletal system, respiratory system, cardiovascular system, endocrine system, gastrointestinal system. Many people become stressed because they don't trust God to provide the basic necessities of life. "Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life?" (Matthew 6:25, 27).

God wants His children to look positively towards the future. "...forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead" (Philippians 3:13). We need to stop dwelling on the past and look forward to our future. "Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18).

No matter the problems we are facing.  God cares for us. Being a child of God does not exempt us from difficult times; but trusting Him can make the situation less painful. "Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us" (Psalm 62:8).  "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid" (John 14:27).

We are told to cast our burdens on the Lord. David tells us to walk in obedience with God and he will protect us. "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him" (Psalms 37:5).  Is this easy to do?  No! We don't always know the best way to handle life, but when we trust God's guidance and teaching, then life becomes so much better. "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him" (Colossians 3:17).

When we commit to the Lord we will have peace of mind. We will lie in green pastures and be lead beside quiet waters.  "And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7).

He Leadeth Me: O Blessed Thought

He leadeth me: O blessed thought!

O words with heavenly comfort fraught!

Whate'er I do, where'er I be,

still 'tis God's hand that leadeth me.

Refrain:

He leadeth me, he leadeth me,

by his own hand he leadeth me;

his faithful follower I would be,

for by his hand he leadeth me.

Sometimes mid scenes of deepest gloom,

sometimes where Eden's bowers bloom,

by waters still, o'er troubled sea,

still 'tis his hand that leadeth me.

Lord, I would place my hand in thine,

nor ever murmur nor repine;

content, whatever lot I see,

since 'tis my God that leadeth me.

(Refrain)

And when my task on earth is done,

when by thy grace the victory's won,

e'en death's cold wave I will not flee,

since God through Jordan leadeth me.

(Refrain)
