Jeremiah 17:5 This is what the LORD says: "Cursed is the
one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh and whose heart turns
away from the LORD.
A new employee at a textile mill was hired as a seamstress. A warning sign on the sewing machine read "If your thread becomes tangled, call the foreman immediately."
After sewing for an hour, the new employee's thread became tangled. Fearing being berated, she decided to untangle the thread herself, causing it to tighten. Finally, she had no choice but to call the foreman. As soon as he arrived, the foreman could tell that the young worker had ignored the warning on the machine. "I did the best I could," she said. The foreman replied. "To do the best you could, you should have followed instructions".
I cannot begin to tell you how many times I have tried to "fix" a problem by myself. I forget to follow the instructions of my "Great Foreman" before my thread gets tangled.
When we try to handle life's complications on our own. We exalt our own strength above the Lord's. This is unacceptable to a Holy and All-Powerful God. Even our greatest efforts cannot compare with how much more effectively a job can get done if we would only call upon His Name!
