La Feria church of Christ Bulletin

Greetings from your preacher,

I hope everyone is prepared for some good messages from God's word this weekend, as brother DeBerry presents some lessons on the uniqueness of the Lord's church. I believe we will all be edified, and thankful, for the opportunity God has provided us. It is truly a blessing, to  have one of the most well known gospel preachers in the brotherhood here in the Valley. I encourage everyone in the congregation to put aside everything else, and be there Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

The ladies are providing pastries and coffee on Friday night and Saturday night. And then, we will have our fellowship meal Sunday after the worship service. If possible, bring a little extra, in the event we have some guests from the area congregations, as well as the community.

I look forward to seeing you all again on Sunday as we assemble to worship God and edify each other. The morning Bible study is at 10 a.m., as usual, followed by worship at 10:45 a.m. The fellowship meal will follow immediately after worship. And, our last service with brother DeBerry will be at 1:30 p.m.

Your preacher,
Roger

PRAISEWORTHY KIDS
This past Sunday in the morning Bible study for children, Benny, Jayden and Araiza considered how there is always someone younger than we are that we can teach about Jesus. They practiced singing, You're A Beautiful Child And God Loves You. Benny offered to be a big brother to William if he visits with the class to help him feel welcome. Araiza read Gen. 1:1-3, and the children sang first first verse of "Day One, Day One". Benny read Gen. 1:6-8, and they sang about the second day of creation. Jayden pointed to the words and listened to the account of day three, and the children sang about the third day of creation. Then the children discussed the importance of the first day of the week to Jesus, and how in addition to singing, praying and studying the Bible, we are commanded us to remember how He gave His life for us.

Please continue to pray for the children, that they might grow up to be strong Christian men and women.

AN ARTICLE FROM A PREACHER: THE CHURCH BELONGS TO CHRIST
David Sproule

It is interesting and often discouraging to observe happenings in the religious world. The whole world was tuned in to the recent passing of Pope Francis and the selection of Pope Leo as the new leader of the Catholic Church. During that same time, an article was published by a major news outlet regarding An Ongoing Debate within another large denomination about a belief on the rise in this denomination that doesn't, - align with [their] doctrinal beliefs;
and a strong desire among the leadership to maintain,  - fidelity to what we believe.

The intent of this article is not to address either of these religious groups or these specific matters that they have faced. The purpose is to ask a fundamental question: Where did all of these different religious groups come from? Or, to ask it another way, did all of these different religious groups come from the Bible?

The vast differences in beliefs and practices among Christendom as a whole is astonishing.  Within this, supposed, global community of people with a, supposed, common, Christian Faith, one would expect unanimity of faith and practice, and yet what one finds is as far from unanimity as possible.

Some say that Jesus is God, but others teach that Jesus is - ...a god. Some say that man should only pray to God, but others teach to pray to saints also. Some say that baptism is by immersion, but others teach that baptism is by sprinkling. Some say that worship is to be done on Saturday, but others teach that it is on Sunday. Some say that only men are authorized to preach, but others teach that women may preach. And the list of differences could go on and on and on.

What's the point? The examples used above show that there are doctrines diametrically opposed to each other within this, supposed, common faith of Christendom, emphasizing such incompatibility that the opposing positions cannot both be right. This cannot be because the Bible contradicts the Bible, or because the Bible leads to contradicting views.

Every word in the Bible is from God (2 Tim. 3:16); and the Bible demands that, - All speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions. (1 Cor. 1:10). Thus, the only rational conclusion is that such division is the result of man, not God.

What would happen if man laid aside all doctrines and practices and simply went back to the Bible, used only the Bible, and refused to teach anything but the Bible? He would find that: Christ has - one body - or - church, (Eph. 4:4; 1:22-23); with Christ as the one - head, (Eph. 5:23); and only - one faith, (Eph. 4:5); that is to be taught without addition, or subtraction. (Rev. 22:18-19)

Following only Scripture would never lead to hundreds, yeah thousands, of different groups with different belief systems. How beautifully simple is God's Way!

David Sproule

Es interesante y a menudo desalentador observar los acontecimientos en el mundo religioso. El mundo entero estaba sintonizado con el reciente fallecimiento del Papa Francisco y la seleccion del Papa Leo como el nuevo lider de la Iglesia Catolica. Durante ese mismo tiempo, un importante medio de comunicacion publico un articulo sobre un debate en curso dentro de otra gran denominacion sobre una creencia en aumento en esta denominacion que no se alinea con [sus] creencias doctrinales;

Our News Archives

OUR VISITORS ARE OUR HONORED GUESTS!

If you worship with us, this is what you may expect to see following the New Testament example we can read about in the Bible:

We pray to Our Father through the name of Jesus Christ.

We open up the Bible and read it.

A gospel sermon is preached.

We sing from the heart without instruments.

We remember the Lord Jesus Christ's death every first day of the week with the Lord's supper.

Those who have laid funds by in store for the purpose of giving to the work of the church make contributions.

If you are a visitor and are interested in knowing more about the events of the church of Christ in La Feria, please call preacher Roger Goodwin at (956) 277-0434.

"And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen." (Matt. 28:18-20)
