God's King
By Dan C. Bailey
"Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will
declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have
I begotten thee" (~Psalm 2:6,7~).
1) Jesus came down
from heaven.
"For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will,
but the will of him that sent me" (~John 6:38~). "I am the living bread which
came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever:
and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of
the world" (~John 6:51~).
2) Jesus was born
in a stable.
"And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him
in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for
them in the inn" (~Luke 2:7~).
3) Jesus didn't
own or live in a mansion or a palace.
"And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I
will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes
have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not
where to lay his head" (~Matthew 8:19,20~).
"For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that,
though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his
poverty might be rich" (~2 Corinthians 8:9~).
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God,
believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so,
I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare
a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I
am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas
saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the
way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh
unto the Father, but by me" (~John 14:1-6~).
4) Jesus had no
marching armies.
"Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my
kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be
delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence" (~John 18:36~).
"Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden,
and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek
and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is
easy, and my burden is light" (~Matthew 11:28-30~).
5) Jesus' mission
was to give Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of the world.
"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and
saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world" (~John
1:29~).
"For God so loved the world, that he gave his only
begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have
everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world;
but that the world through him might be saved" (~John 3:16,17~).
"But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the
angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by
the grace of God should taste death for every man" (~Hebrews 2:9~).
"This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all
acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I
am chief" (~1 Timothy 1:15~).
"For when we were yet without strength, in due time
Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet
peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth his
love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much
more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath
through him" (~Romans 5:6-9~). "For the preaching of the cross is to them that
perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God" (~1
Corinthians 1:18~).
No, God's King was no ordinary King! He is the only King
that came down from heaven. He is the only King who was born in a stable. He is
the only King who didn't own or live in a mansion or a palace. He is the only
King who had no marching armies. He is the only King who gave Himself as a
sacrifice, for the sins of the world. God's King is God's Son, and he is our
King!
