"Who cares?” This question is rarely asked as a serious inquiry, but rather it is most often given as a dismissive comment. When someone asks "Who cares?” as a response to anything, his meaning is that he doesn’t care about what has been said. It is a way of saying that something or someone is unimportant, irrelevant, or insignificant. A person who says "Who cares?” doesn’t want to be bothered with information that has no value in his opinion.
However, if you really want to know who cares about you, then there is one answer to the question that is always true. Our God is concerned about every person at all times, and nothing that happens in His creation escapes His notice. Even nature demonstrates to us the everlasting concern that our heavenly Father has for every man, woman, and child. Consider the words of the Lord in Matthew 6:25-30:
"For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith!”
God’s concern for the birds of the air and the lilies of the field is obvious by His rich provisions for them, but "are you not worth much more than they?” Jesus returned to this theme in Matthew 10:29-31, when He said:
"Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.”
Not only does nature prove God’s unending concern for you, but the years you have already lived give abundant evidence that He cares for you. Consider all the blessings you have enjoyed ever since you were born: food, water, air, clothing, shelter, sunshine, rain, etc. Every moment that you have lived is proof that God has cared enough about you to provide for your needs. When you were a child, you may have thought that your provisions came from your parents, but it was God who gave you parents. When you became an adult, you may have thought that your provisions came from your own labors, but it was God who gave you the ability and opportunity. Therefore, count your blessings, realize that God cares for you, and understand the truth of James 1:17 – "Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.”
Your physical provisions should convince you that God cares for you, but His spiritual provisions through Jesus Christ must remove all doubt. God has "blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ” (Eph. 1:3). These blessings have come at a terrible cost to the Father, "for God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16). God purposefully sent His Son into the world to die for your salvation because He cares about you. If He did this much for you, then you must know that He will not withhold anything that you need. Consider the question of Romans 8:32 – "He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him over for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things?”
Based on this impressive evidence, you can know that God cares for you every moment of your life. For this reason, you should trust Him with all of your heart to do what is best for you. "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you” (1Pet. 5:6-7). "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:6-7). When you know that God cares for you, you will be secure indeed. After all, even if no one but God cares about you, then so what? You know Who cares.
