Waging Christian Warfare The Battle that all of us as Christians are in is the war between the flesh & God’s Spirit. Led by the Spirit = pleasing to God - Life! Led by the flesh = can never be pleasing to God - Death! Today, we are going to discuss how to wage Christian Warfare- The Spirit against the Flesh Turn to: 2 Corinthians 10 starting at verse 1 1 Now I, Paul, myself urge you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ--I who am meek when face to face with you, but bold toward you when absent! 2 I ask that when I am present I need not be bold with the confidence with which I propose to be courageous against some, who regard us as if we walked according to the flesh. 3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh, 4 for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. I. The Christian warrior is to war against this world as Christ does. How does Paul describe the ultimate Soldier of God who has overcome the world? 1. Meekness - mildness, Not threatening same word: Galatians 6:1 Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of meekness Ephesians 4:2 with all humility and meekness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love 2 Timothy 2:25 with meekness correcting those who are in opposition, if perhaps God may grant them repentance leading to the knowledge of the truth 2. Gentleness - a gentle fairness - quietly reasonable without threatening 3. The ultimate Christian warrior’s attitude is gentle & unthreatening. The ultimate Christian warrior’s words are quiet & reasonable The MIND is in control & the EMOTIONS are controlled. If you do not BEGIN the battle like this - YOU HAVE LOST! period. How many battles against the Flesh have you lost in your life before it really began? II. The Christian Warrior must choose their weapons correctly. 1. "For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh" What are the wrong weapons? Anger (But what about Jesus cleansing the temple?) James 1:20 for the anger of man does not achieve the righteousness of God 1. Was Jesus’ anger at the temple the “anger of man”? or the anger of God? 2. Does anyone here claim to be God and not man? 3. Therefore is anger EVER JUSTIFIED in a Christian Warrior? 4. ANY TIME you deal with anyone in anger, you have LOST the Battle.
