Frank Van Dyke vs Roscoe Kent (Premillennialist)
April 17, 1952
Rogers Spring, Tennessee
(By Robert L. Witt)
Debated at Rogers Spring, Tenn.
Mr. Kent represented people called Grace Fellowship Church. They are rant premillennialists and teach that we are under a new dispensation that began with the apostles Paul. This sect is fairly common in parts of Wisconsin and around Chicago, their doctrine emanating from Milwaukee Bible Institute and the Moody Institute of Chicago.
Jan. 5. This debate was unusual. Mr. Kent's moderator, Richard Past, from Chicago debated in Kent's place the second night. Neither men tried to answer bro. Van Dyke's arguments. These people believe like the Baptists - salvation by grace only and security of the believers. They do not practice water baptism for any purpose. They weave into their extreme dispensationalism a rank form of premillennialism. The only books of the N.T. that apply to this dispensation are the books that Paul wrote and they claim to be following Paul's preaching under the new "Mystery of the gospel." They deny that any of Peter's preaching applies to us today.
Although this was bro. Van Dyke's first debate, Mr. Kent in his last speech asked that the audience consider that he was debating for the first time, whereas Van Dyke was a seasoned debater. Bro. Van Dyke's arguments were logical and he demonstrated ability.
