J. D. Tant vs T. S. Bolin (Missionary Baptist)
September 1, 1938
Combes, Texas
(By Mrs. G. C. Page)
J. D. Tant debated T. S. Bolin at Combes, Tx.
Mr. Bolin affirmed general proposition for three days. He labored strenuously to show that the church was set up at Mr. Hattin (61 miles from Jerusalem). Bro. Tant exposed him on that point from prophecy and the New Testament. If Bolin returned to Mt. Hattin again it was only the silent breathings of his spirit. He tried to prove an unbroken chain in a succession of Baptist churches from here back to the personal ministry of Christ. Bro. Tant gave him so much misery on that contention that he showed great discomfiture early in the debate; and the passing of each session only brought on added burden to the man.
When bro. Tant affirmed, he did it with characteristic force and vigor. The Baptists visitors and locals listened eagerly to bro. Tant's arguments - another instance when he showed ease and superiority in debate over an opponent who wasted time and mental energy on doctrines of men.
