Robert O. Rogers vs Mr. Hicks (Baptist)
February 27, 1902
Bardwell, Kentucky
(By members of the church at Bardwell, Kentucky)
The church at Bardwell, Ky. gave this endorsement of bro. Rogers. "We thank bro. Rogers for his defense of the truth of God and for his Christian and gentlemanly conduct during his debate with Mr. Hicks. Mr. Hicks came here and made a world-wide challenge; especially did he desire to meet bro. Rogers, who agreed to meet him. After the morning session of the 2nd day, the Baptist deacons held a meeting, at which they decided not to allow the debate to proceed further. Mr. Hicks found bro. Rogers entirely too strong for him in Bible argumentation, and he had to resort to slang and abuse. Bro. Rogers turned every criticism and anecdote against Hicks in such a telling manner that the audience frequently gave vent to the heartiest applause. Mr. Hicks used language that is too indecent to be printed. As Mr. Hicks had to be met, we are glad bro. Rogers did the work kindly and to our entire satisfaction.. (Some Baptists also signed this statement.)
