C. D. Plum vs W. W. McMicken (Church of God - 7th Day)
January 31, 1935
Salem, West Virginia

(By C. D. Plum)

McMicken boldly challenged for a debate at Salem, W. Va., where the 7th day folks have a little college, and a 2nd debate was held in the high school auditorium .

McMicken argued the word "Sunday" not found in the Bible. I responded by saying the word "Saturday" is also not found in the Bible. Both words are of human origin - merely words, and do not affect the issue being debated in the least. The "Lord's day" is the first day of the week, the day after Saturday, the Lord's resurrection day; and on this day Christians meet to worship God, which includes items of worship, not a "rest day" but a day of spiritual activity. Christ arose on the first day (Mk. 16:1,9); "the Sabbath was past."
If there were no other scriptures to prove Christ's resurrection was on the first day of the week, this would be sufficient.

Ps. 118:22,24 Ths day of prophecy: "The stone which the builders refused is become the stone of the corner." "This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." This is the first day of the week in prophecy. If the first day of the week is he day which the Lord hath made, them it is the Lord's day. If not, why not?

Mr. McMicken crossed himself in upholding false doctrine. His position on Matt.28:1, which brought the women to the tomb on Saturday, got him into serious trouble when he later came to Luke 23:56. By the help of God we worried him with this!
