C. R. Nichol vs Mr. Groom (Baptist)
June 3, 1937
Abilene, Texas

(By Logan Buchanan)

Debated in May at Abilene, Tx.

As usual, the outcome of the affair was the triumph of truth, the downfall of error, the complete annihilation of a false teacher. Groom made one point stand out above all others in the debate - his utter inability to defend the doctrines of Baptists. He seemed a most miserable man throughout the debate. The people who supported him became fewer in number as the debate progressed. The crowds were good and bro. Nichol used the opportunity well to teach a great number of people the truth of God. There was never the hint of anything that would seem to indicate that bro. Nichol was not always complete master of the situation in hand.

Bro. Nichol, as usual, presented logical arguments in a clear-cut way, so that they were unanswerable. It is to be hoped that many other debates will spring out of this one, and certainly, if the Baptists are to have any satisfaction out of the debate, it must be found in some debate of the future. The usual differences were discussed.
