C. R. Nichol vs H. O. Smith (Mormon)
March 6, 1902
Granite, Oklahoma Territory
(By J. B. Nelson)
Subject: General church proposition.
Smith made no attempt to define his proposition, but said his church was organized April 6, 1832 by Joe Smith - the Book of Mormon is the "everlasting gospel" of Rev.14:6. He said the apostle John is still on earth and two Neophyte apostles spoken of the Book of Mormon; that the early church had apostles in it - the 12 and the 70 - and so must the church today have apostles.
Bro. Nichol's answer: 1832 is too late for the church of Christ to have been organized, showed the scriptures Smith used had no reference to Joe Smith or the "Book fo Mormon," and Rev.14:6 does not refer to a new gospel. He read one of Joe Smith's "Revelations" which said that if Brigham Young got control of the church he would lead it to hell. Mr. H. O. Smith agree to this point. Bro. Nichol proved from good Mormon authority that Brigham Young did get in the lead, adding: "Your church is in hell, or your prophet, Joe Smith, is a liar; and I am inclined to believe both."
Nichol proved from swarm of Mormon witnesses that Joe Smith was a water witch, thief, liar, scoundrel, drunkard, and a polygamist. In the "temple lot suit" between the Utah Mormons and the town Mormons, bro. Nichol read statements from 6 women, swearing they were wives of Joe Smith. It was further proved that Joe Smith at one time tried to sell the "Book of Mormon" as a novel. The word "Mormon" is a Greek word meaning "disgrace," "slanderous," "a hideous she monster."
Six have been baptized; one of them a Mormon. The Methodist, Baptists and Presbyterians were pleased. They had been challenged and were afraid to debate.
This is C. R. Nichol's 64th debate. He is an able man. Don't be afraid to call on him.
