A. C. Grider vs F. L. Ray (Baptist)
April 12, 1951
Willette, Macon County, Tennessee
(By A. C. Grider)
March 6 - 9.
"Apostasy" was the only subject. Elder Ray took the position that the inner man was converted to Christ and could not commit a single act of sin. He declared that the body remained unregenerated and always belonged to the devil and would remain in the possession of the devil until the resurrection. Some Baptists began shaking their heads before I ever spoke. I cited Matthew 15:19, which teaches that fornication and adultery comes from the heart and defiles the man. He never attempted to set it aside. I showed that the body is the temple of the Holy Ghost, and that we are to present our bodies a living sacrifice to God. His failure to answer my arguments was so apparent that it reacted against him. He is the strongest Baptist debater in Middle Tennessee on the plan of salvation, but on apostasy he was the weakest that I have ever heard.
