A. G. Freed vs Jesse Neal (Missionary Baptist)
November 17, 1927
Buchanan, Tennessee

(By Will J. Cullum)

Beginning at 10 a.m., November 1, at Buchanan, Tennessee in four-day debate.

Subject: Baptism, Apostasy, Work of Holy Spirit. Good order and large crowds. Will J. Cullum moderated for Freed; W. O. Hargrove moderated for Neal. Although this discussion was only 14 miles from Murray, Kentucky, the home of H. B. Taylor, who has a Bible school with a number of young Baptist preachers attending, they failed to attend a single session. Only four Baptist preachers came each time.

Jesse Neal is above the average Baptist debater and one of the hardest fighters that I have ever seen try to defend Baptist doctrine. He is an artful dodger, and fails utterly to answer an argument of his opponent. No man can defend Baptist errors in the presence of A. G. Freed without being thoroughly exposed and left without foundation. He is a forceful speaker and thoroughly familiar with the Bible. The church was delighted with the debate and believes good results will follow.

Brethren present (preachers): Coleman Overby, Allen Phy, T. G. Curd, J. G. Malphurs, W. A. Record, Tipton Wilcox, Alonzo Williams, Charles Sweatt, Bennie Brown, R. L. Hard, Charles F. Hardin, J. S. Jones, L. N. Moody, and B. L. Douthitt.
