A. O. Calley vs D. A. Leake (Digressive)
May 28, 1914
Clarendon, Texas
(By John Puckett)
At Clarendon, Texas, May 5-7.
The two speakers agreed to treat each other with brotherly love. This they did. They had no moderators, but had a Dr. Williams, Episcopal rector, as Chairman. They further agreed to debate these same issues until one was convinced or saw fit to withdraw his practice. (Same propositions that N. B. Hardeman signed.)
Leake's argument on the New Testament was largely on 'Psalms' in Ephesians 5:19 and Colossians 3:16. He argued that 'PSALLO' carried with it the idea of an instrument. Bro. Calley said if it did it took a long time for the religious world to find it out as it was first introduced by Catholics in the "Dark Ages."
Some of Leake's strongest supporters said he failed. Bro. Calley preached and organized church of 25 members.
