John E. Dunn vs Ben M. Bogard (Baptist)
March 24, 1910
Corinth, Mississippi
(By E. J. Pinegar)
Held at Corinth, Mississippi, January 3-8.
Dunn was by far too much for Bogard, and took him by surprise. Bogard thought he would have an easy time with an inexperienced man, but he soon found Dunn was ready at all times to meet Baptist foolishness. He did the best work I ever heard, and was kind and courteous toward his opponent, as evidenced by many words of praise spoken by townspeople commending him for his Christian spirit and conduct.
Bogard pretends to be a scholar and boasts of his ability. A sample or two will show his inability. He said that "EIS" in Acts 16:30-31, "believe on the Lord," should be translated "into." He also said that "KAI" in Acts 11:21 "believed and turned unto the Lord" should be "believe, even turning unto the Lord." Bogard cannot pronounce the simplest of Greek words. He is very unfair, and often personates people in the audience and uses a great deal of slang.
Bro. Dunn is loved by the brethren at Corinth, as is shown by the fact that he has conducted two meetings and one debate, and promises to return for a revival in 1911.
The brethren at Corinth know how to treat visiting brethren. They have all the traits of true children of God. With the victory that Bro. Dunn won for truth in this debate and with him to preach for them, with their lives as examples, the cause of Christ will be sure to prosper.
Visiting brethren: G. A. Dunn, J. W. Dunn, R. L. Shook, C. H. Cranford, P. G. Wright, and E. J. Pinegar.
