Bro. Boaz was effective in overthrowing nunnery in nearly every position which he took. Some of the Baptists admit that Nunnery was worsted in the debate and that they cannot agree with him in some of his positions; others (outsiders) say that Boaz was victorious. The Christians were delighted and jubilant over Boaz's victory and his defense of the truth.
During the debate Nunnery asserted that only the fleshly man is baptized; that the spirit is not baptized, is not involved in the baptism; and that the flesh is not converted, only the spirit being converted. Boaz asked: "For what do you baptize people?" He replied: "To make them Baptists, to put them into the Baptist church." Boaz answered: "Then the Baptist Church is an unconverted church, according to your own doctrine; because only the flesh gets in (unconverted) for only the flesh is baptized. The spirit is converted, 'born again,' saved, and is in the spiritual family, or kingdom of heaven, before baptism; then baptism only puts the flesh into the Baptist Church." This worried Nunnery and the Baptists generally.
