W. H. Trice vs A. G. Canada (Pentecostal)
May 18, 1916
Senath, Missouri

(By J. W. Brents)

On April 25-26 bro. W.H. Trice of Memphis, Tenn. engaged A.G. Canada of Winston-Salem, N.C. in public discussion at Senath, Mo.

The following subjects were debated. Bro. Trice affirmed: The Bible teaches that such signs as those in Mk. 16:17,18 ceased when the last person upon whom apostolic hands were laid had died. Canada affirmed: The Bible teaches that such signs as those mentioned in Mk. 16:17,18 follow believers in this age of the world.

The Pentecostal people have gained a large following in the town of Senath. It is no unusual thing to pass their homes and hear their shrieks and groans and loud crying late in the night. The whole country seems to be stirred over this modern fanaticism such as speaking in tongues which neither God, men nor devils could understand, and healing the sick, etc.

Bro. Trice presented the Bible teaching along these lines and more than a thousand heard him, but I fear many will not heed. Mr. Canada was once a Methodist preacher. He is well educated and a brilliant speaker. It is regrettable the debate was no longer. Bro. Trice would have had more chance to preach the gospel.
