W. L. Totty vs J. W. Hardwick (Primitive Baptist)
January 5, 1939
LaFayette, Tennessee

(By L. Freeman Crowder)

Dec. 6-9, 1938, W. L. Totty debated J. W. Hardwick at the White Oak church building near LaFayette, Tenn.

The debate was wonderful success for truth. The Primitive Baptists at White Oak expressed their desire to "wipe out" the little group of Christians whom they call "Campbellites." They have tried their two best cannons, namely, W.C. David of McEwen, Tenn. and J. W. Hardwick. But both guns back fired. Unconditional and conditional salvation were the subjects. The sword of the Spirit was forcefully used by bro. Totty. Mr. Hardwick, held in the grasp of the "Philadelphia Confession of Faith," was unable to defend himself, or to do the Baptist cause any good in that community. I doubt if the P.B. have any more debates at White Oak soon.
