C. R. Nichol vs Guy Phelps (Methodist)
February 23, 1933
Houston, Texas
(By C.R. Nichol)
Some months age I issued a challenge through the Christian Standard for a debate with Guy Phelps. Efforts were made to have him meet me in debate in Wichita, Kansas, but the Methodist of the city were not willing. He came to Houston and agreed to meet me. It is my persuasion that never again will Mr. Phelps agree to meet me in debate, or any other man in the church of Christ who knows how to debate. I think one of the happiest moments of his life was when the debate closed.
In asserting, without a vestige of proof, he is strong in argument, he is weak. Replying to a negative argument, or even an affirmative argument, he is too weak for words. In the event he come your way and gets "chesty" and wants to debate, it will be a pleasure for me to attend to his case. Accept the same propositions he signed for the debate in Houston, Texas with all the details he demands as he did there, and advise me. It will he a splendid chance to show false positions held by the Methodists.
