J. H. Lawson vs J. N. Hall (Missionary Baptist)
1904
Millport, Alabama

(By Thomas M. Evans)

At Millport, Ala, July 5-8.

Each affirmed: "The religious organization of which I am a member possesses the scriptural characteristics that entitle it to be regarded as the church of Christ."

The debate was well attended, and we believe that all were benefitted from the arguments presented by the speakers. Mr. Hall stands without a peer in the Baptist Church as a debater. He tries to carry his points by wit and sophistry.

Bro. Lawson met Hall's arguments in a Christlike spirit; as he yielded "the word of God," which is "living and active, and sharper than any two-edged sword," against his opponent's false doctrine, cutting it asunder. Lawson seemed as faithful as Abraham and as meek as Moses. The truth is safe in the hands of bro. Lawson, and we feel that a victory has been won for the truth. His short stay with us endeared us all."
