V. E. Howard met E. T. Gary, Pentecostal, in debate at Haynesville, La., Aug. 10-12. Large crowds of nearly 2000.
Really, I had to debate all the Pentecostal preachers present, for they gave all the help possible to my opponent. They were in such distress that they tried to run in three different preachers to take my opponent's place. (Yet they all claimed to have the baptism of the Holy Spirit. If so, why should one be able to do a better job of it than another?) But I did not turn him loose - until we were through. They challenged for another debate and promised to get the very best man they have the next time and not try to make a change two or three times after the debate has begun, This was my first debate. Orno Hartsell moderated for me and did an excellent job.
