John Hayes vs Davis (Baptist)
March 9, 1916
Hazlehurst, Georgia
(By S.H. Hall)
Four days at Hazlehurst, Ga., Feb. 14-18
Bro. Hayes did his work well. He is consecrated to the cause of truth, studies hard and presses opponent with zeal. The debate held on high plane. Mr. Hendrix moderated for Davis. He was fair and helped keep audience in check. S. H. Hall moderated for Hayes the first two days. The last two days was G. E. Claus, Valdosta, Ga.
Davis never attempted to tell about the rulers in John 12:42. Hayes pressed him in every speech until it became a joke. Even his own Baptists saw his inability to answer. Not once was the term "Campbellite" used. This neglected area needs more of this kind of debate.
