George B. Curtis vs Dick Dareing (Missionary Baptist)
August 8, 1935

(By James L. Neal, Springdale, Arkansas)

July 24-27.

"As Joe Blue would say: "The truth stood way out in this debate. Apostasy and baptism were discussed. Mr. Dareing's opening speech on apostasy was as strong as you ever hear. It was the only speech he made with any showing. The clear-cut, clean and outstanding logic of Bro. Curtis stood out from the beginning. I have never witnessed a greater victory for the simple truth. Call Curtis for any defense needed. Despite signed agreements to follow Hedge's Rules, Mr. Dareing used scores of unmeaning, desultory, and declamatory expressions. But the best of feeling prevailed throughout. The order was fine, making it a pleasure to moderate. There is no greater religious, social, and economic necessity in this world today than just such discussions."
